While they provide expert treatment, psychologists do not prescribe medication. Instead, they collaborate with our psychiatrists to ensure comprehensive care.

Do I need a referral to see a psychiatrist?

While a referral letter from your GP is helpful, it is not required. If you do not have a referral letter, your psychiatrist may request additional details when your treatment begins. This helps build a clearer picture of your previous care, which can improve how they support you. You can learn more about the process of transitioning from NHS to private mental health care here.

Do you prescribe medication?

Yes, if necessary. Your psychiatrist will discuss medication options with you and work together to determine the best treatment plan. Note, to be able to get your medication via the NHS, you will need to discuss with your Psychiatrist the best way to proceed. This includes; Shared care agreement A psychiatrist may request your GP to initiate a shared care arrangement once they are confident the prescribed medication is effective. This allows you to receive NHS medication while continuing private care.  GP request Alternatively, a private psychiatrist might send a letter to your NHS GP requesting them to prescribe the medication. The GP must ensure that it is safe and appropriate to prescribe, and may also request a copy of your private doctor's treatment plan
